Adventure vacation Portugal
Surfing, MTB, canyoning!
Portugal – you immediately think of the sun-drenched beaches of the Algarve or surfers in Nazaré near Lisbon. But the westernmost country in the EU still has a few more regions to discover. The autonomous regions of Madeira and Azores with their islands, but also on the mainland itself, can be found great corners.
We travel with you on our adventure in Portugal as a small road trip to the country “behind the mountains” (the region in the northeast of the country is meant). In the “Minho”, the fruit and vegetable garden of the Portuguese mainland, it is wonderfully green and grapes, such as those used for Vinho Verde, thrive splendidly. After your arrival in Porto, we first drive to Ponta da Barca in the north-west of the only national park in the country. There we start the first days in Portugal with beginners canyoning and biking with the e-mountain bike through the dense forests and hills of the Peneda-Gêres National Park.
The first two days end with a sightseeing drive via Brage to the south of the national park, where we stay in a small village near the next canyons. With canyoning for advanced in Arado the next day and a possible further tour, you will experience the fabulous rock landscape up close. But you can also take a day off and go hiking on your own, for example.
Off to the sea! The days in the mountains were sporty, we change the location again and drive to the coast to Viana do Castelo, an old coastal town with a great fishing tradition. Two days of surfing lessons to ride the waves follow, the rest of the day you can enjoy the sea and the city, before we finally move on to the lively, colorful capital of the north, Porto.
The second largest city in the country, famous for port wine, the soup “Caldo verde” and “Francesinha” welcomes us with its colorful houses, lively streets and a wonderful view over the river Douro and the port wine factories towards the Atlantic. The last two days after so much “outdoor life” you can still experience a little Portuguese city culture here, after all, Greeks and Romans were already settled here and “Heinrich the Navigator” is known as the famous son of the city.
