Its easy accessibility makes the Starzlachklamm one of the most accessible canyoning destinations in southern Germany. The gorge is located near Burgberg in the Allgäu, at the foot of the 1,740-meter-high Grünten, just a few kilometers from Sonthofen. From Munich, Stuttgart, Ulm, and Augsburg, you can easily reach the region for a day trip—either by car via the A7 and B19 or by train to Sonthofen and then by bus. A signposted, paid hiking parking lot is available on site. On this page, we summarize the directions, parking options, and the process at the meeting point so that your tour day gets off to a relaxed start.

By car from Munich, Stuttgart, and Ulm
Coming from the north, take the A7 toward Füssen and Kempten until the highway ends, then continue on the B19 toward Sonthofen and Oberstdorf until the Burgberg exit. From Munich, you can either take the A96 toward Lindau and switch to the A7 at the Memmingen interchange, or take the scenic route via Kempten; in both cases, the drive takes about one and a half to two hours. From Stuttgart and Ulm, the A7 will take you to the Oberallgäu in a similar amount of time, and from Augsburg, the route also leads to the region in about an hour and a half, either via the A96 or via Kempten. On sunny summer weekends, we recommend allowing extra time, as the B19 is very busy during peak hours. Our office and canyoning camp are located at Mittagstraße 3 in Sonthofen, just a few minutes’ drive from Burgberg. On-site parking and getting there without a car
Right in Burgberg, you’ll find the signposted Starzlachklamm hiking parking lot, which charges a fee; be sure to bring small change or be prepared to pay by card. Experience has shown that the parking lot fills up early during school breaks and on hot weekends, so carpooling and arriving early are recommended. If you’re traveling without a car, you can take the train via Ulm, Kempten, and Immenstadt to Sonthofen; from there, regional buses run to Burgberg, or you can take a taxi for the short distance. Overnight guests should ask their lodging provider for a guest card, as many cards include regional public transportation. Upon arrival, our team will take care of the logistics, as equipment distribution, safety briefing, and rappelling practice take place before the start of the tour, led by certified guides with a maximum ratio of 1 guide to 8 participants. Ideally, you should put on your swimwear at home; be sure to pack a towel and a dry change of clothes for after the tour.
