Turquoise water, thundering waterfalls, and the Tyrolean mountain backdrop define the canyoning experience at the Stuiben Falls near Plansee. The lake near Reutte in the Lech Valley is among the clearest bodies of water in the Alps, and right nearby, the Archbach plunges down into the valley over several tiers. The name of the falls comes from the “Stieben” (spraying) of the water, as a fine mist hangs over the cascades when the flow is strong. The tour area is just a short drive from the Allgäu and the Füssen region, making the Stuiben Falls a worthwhile destination for vacationers and day-trippers alike. We’ll introduce the tour and explain the itinerary, requirements, and how to get there.
Here's what awaits you in the Archbach Gorge
Following the path of the water, this tour takes you over smooth, polished rocks, through clear pools, and along the waterfall steps, where you’ll rappel. Your guide will explain each section in advance; we’ll practice rappelling in a dry run before starting, and jumps remain optional, as on all our tours. We intentionally leave space between the active sections to let the scenery—with its spray, rocks, and mountain panorama—make an impression, because time pressure is not part of our approach to canyoning. You’ll be accompanied by certified guides with a maximum ratio of seven guests per guide; all specialized Edelrid gear—from wetsuits to shoes—is included in the tour price, as is the photo service for your souvenir pictures. Prerequisites include confident swimming skills and a normal level of basic fitness, similar to what would be required for a mountain hike with an approach; the tour does not require any special prior climbing experience. A comparison with the Strindenbach canyoning tour in the neighboring Tannheimer Valley illustrates how this tour fits into our Five Gorges program.
Getting There, the Region, and Recommended Travel Combinations
In terms of transportation, Plansee is more conveniently located than many people realize: From Füssen, the road leads via the Ziegelwies border crossing to Reutte in just a few kilometers and on to the lake, and from the Sonthofen area, you can reach the Außerfern region via the Oberjoch Pass or the Tannheimer Valley. This makes the tour ideal as a day trip from the Allgäu or as part of a vacation in the Reutte, Füssen, or Lech Valley regions. You’ll receive the exact meeting point with your booking confirmation; all meeting points are listed on our website. After the tour, the lakeside path along Plansee or the royal castles near Füssen are perfect ways to round out the day, allowing you to combine canyoning with classic vacation activities in a single day—and ensuring that travel companions not participating in the tour can also find things to do nearby. Over 25 years of experience in the region’s gorges goes into every tour plan, backed by our ISO 21101-certified safety concept. If you’d like to give this experience as a gift, our adventure gift certificates for canyoning tours are the perfect option.
